Beyond the Basics: Improver to Advanced Level Classes
Ready for the next level? Beyond beginners, you’ll be able to develop your dance skills to an advanced level and learn about the rich variety of dance styles that come under the general heading of belly dance. It’s not one dance style, it’s many!
In each class, we work on both technique and choreographed routines. You’ll learn about different styles of belly dance, as well as about Arabic music. We also love to dance with props – sticks, veils, fan veils, fans, finger cymbals, Isis wings, and more!
Beyond Level 1
Improver (Level 2)
Once you are comfortable with the basic repertoire of belly dances moves learned in the beginner classes, then you’re ready for the next level. In the improvers you’ll learn new moves, how to layer moves, practise short combinations, and learn a more challenging dance routine.
Suitable for those who have completed 2 to 3 terms of beginner classes.
Intermediate (Level 3)
At this level, there’s a bit more emphasis on polishing technique and performance skills, as well as continuing to advance your overall dance skills, including shimmies.
To join this class, you’ll probably have been belly dancing for at least two years and beginning to find the improvers class doesn’t feel as challenging as it used to!
Advanced (Level 4)
At this level, you can expect more complex, layered technique and challenging choreographed routines. You’ll also be expanding your knowledge of Arabic music and styles of belly dance, especially different styles of Egyptian dance (e.g. baladi, oriental, shaabi, saidi, etc).
Suitable for students who have completed at least a year’s training at improver level and another year at intermediate level.
Note: currently the highest-level class is the combined Intermediate/Advanced class in Abingdon on Thursdays.

The best time to join an improver, or other higher level class, is when we begin a new choreographed dance as each dance generally takes more than a term to learn so you may want to check with Loreley before you book!
